Capitals Parent Code of Conduct
As a parent or guardian of a CCYHA player, I acknowledge and agree to the following:
Awareness of Policies I am aware of and understand CCYHA's Zero Tolerance policy, Discipline policy, and all rules and guidelines, which are posted on the CCYHA website and available at the Rink. I will conduct myself within the rules and guidelines established by USA Hockey, WAHL/WAHA, CRHL/CAHA, and CCYHA, recognizing that parents and guardians serve as role models.
Attendance and Communication I will make a good faith effort to have my child attend all scheduled practices and games, and I will notify the team manager or head coach in advance of any absences. I understand that family, school, or home responsibilities may occasionally take priority, and I will communicate those commitments to the team manager and/or head coach.
Player Development and Coaching I understand that my child has paid to learn the skills and concepts of hockey, and that the CCYHA coaching staff is committed to developing all players in accordance with the USA Hockey Coaches Ethics Code. Coaching is not an exact science; coaches will make decisions that are both popular and unpopular. While I may not agree with every decision, I will respect them and act accordingly. I will emphasize the value of skill development and practice to my athlete, and I will recognize, communicate with, and support the coaches who contribute to player and program development.
Resolving Concerns If I have concerns or questions about my child's status on the team, I will follow this process:
- Observe a 24-hour cool-down period following the triggering event (a coaching decision, practice, tournament, or WAHL/CRHL weekend). No discussions are to take place during this window. This cool-down does not apply to Zero Tolerance matters such as bullying, hazing, or threatening acts — those must be reported immediately.
- Begin communication with the team manager, who will direct concerns to the head coach. The head coach may respond directly or through the team manager.
- If the issue remains unresolved, contact a Board Member.
Supervision and Locker Room Conduct I am responsible for supervising my player and any player siblings at all CCYHA events, including practices, games, hotels, away rinks, and tournaments. Only SafeSport-approved CCYHA representatives are permitted in the players' locker room, and only with the head coach's approval (the exception being 8U players who need help getting dressed). Players are expected to clean up after themselves in locker rooms at both home and away events.
Respect for the Game I will know and study the rules of the game and support the officials on and off the ice — an approach that helps develop the game, strengthen officiating, and retain officials over time. I will respect the rinks, the rink staff, and the rules of every facility I visit, home or away.
Conduct That Will Not Be Tolerated
- Fighting
- Abusive language or conduct directed at an official's decision
- Use of abusive, disrespectful, or vulgar language toward players, teammates, officials, coaches, rink staff, or parents
Any player, parent, or guardian who cannot abide by these rules or who violates them will be subject to disciplinary action.
